Warren E. Blazier, Jr. 1924-2011

Long considered the “Dean” of noise control, Warren Blazier enjoyed a reputation that was unsurpassed in the industry. He served both as an Associated Consultant for Noise Control and a member of the Board of Directors for TALASKE since 1988. Warren was a consultant’s consultant and we were privileged to work with him.

Mr. Blazier was an internationally recognized specialist in addressing problems concerning noise and vibration control of mechanical equipment and systems. He was a pioneer in the field of building structural vibration on the performance of vibration-sensitive laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Mr. Blazier has assisted TALASKE on a wide variety of buildings, including performing-arts centers, educational and office facilities, research laboratories, hotels and residences.

Obituary

Warren E. Blazier, Jr. Died peacefully on the 20th of February at VA Hospital, San Francisco. He was an internationally recognized expert in acoustics and vibration of buildings and professionally active until his death at the age of 87. Born in Sharon Springs, Kansas, he served in the US Air Force in World War II, studied music at Julliard, graduated in Engineering Physics from U. of Kansas, and earned Master of Science in Acoustics from U. of Wichita. He worked with Boeing, and later Borg-Warner before joining acoustics consulting firm Bolt Beranek and Newman at Cambridge. In 1978 he founded his own group, Warren Blazier Associates, pioneering work on mechanical systems in design of concert halls and vibration-sensitive laboratories. Very active in professional societies and development of industry and national standards on sound and vibration, mechanical equipment and systems design, Warren's research and technical papers are recognized in scientific and engineering sectors worldwide. A true gentleman, generous with his time and knowledge, Warren was the "consultant's consultant." Well traveled, with a passion for music, he was ever supportive of the arts, and devoted to his long-time companion James Petty. Survived as well by his brother Ward and family of Florida, countless friends and colleagues, Warren was deeply admired, and will long be remembered by those who were blessed to know him.
